St. Mark Lutheran Church
1934 52nd Street SE Kentwood, MI 49508 Learning Hour, Sundays 9:45-10:45 a.m. begins September 20th 09/14/2009 Sunday Morning Learning Hour (9:45-10:45 a.m.) Opportunities: Adult Bible Studies "The Challenge of Islam-Part Two: Defending the Christian Faith" Last spring we covered Part One and learned the basic parts of Islam and how to witness to Muslims. In Part Two of this Bible Study, we will again be helped by Sam Shamoun, an Arab-Christian, and will examine key texts from the Qu'ran, and the Bible. Among the items covered will be Islamic presuppositions concerning the priority of the Qu'ran, Bible texts considered corrupt by Muslims, the sonship of believers, and Islam's position on the Trinity. This study is led by Pastor Tom Meyer and will meet in the Sanctuary. The New Testament Book of Philippians - Developing the Attitude of Joyful Fellowship in Christ. This epistle, written by Apostle Paul, has often been called the "The Epistle of Joy." Paul writes this letter from prison and encourages his readers to stand firm in the face of persecution and to rejoice no matter what their situation - certainly a valuable lesson for modern day Christians. The key is that you live your life "in Christ." This study is led by Chris Rubino and will meet in the Media Center. "Overcoming Emotions That Destroy" When you are angry are you a "Spewer," "Leaker," or "Stuffer?" Learn the difference between good and bad anger, how to gain control of it, and how to use it in constructive ways. What you do with anger can negatively affect your spiritual, mental and emotional health. From Anger to Intimacy, by Dr. Gary Smalley and Overcoming Emotions that Destroy, by Chip Ingram are two of the books that will be used as resoucres. This study, for couples, is led by Pat and Cheryl Marklevitz in Room 225 of the West Michigan Lutheran High School wing.
